Mr. Jeevaneswaran Ramoo is in consulting in Accenture. His primary work has been in Energy and Natural Resource Management sectors. After completing his STPM in Melaka High School, he pursued his Bioengineering degree in Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He has been active in environmental non-profit work since 2007, especially in public education of Sustainable Lifestyle and improving collaboration among tertiary students in tackling common environmental issues in campuses. He has led a large group of volunteers and delegates from many Asia Pacific countries to prepare input documents for the decadal Rio+20 UN summit held in Rio de Janeiro in 2012. Motivated by his professional and non-profit experience in environmental sector, Jeevan will be pursuing Masters of Environmental Management in Yale University. He hopes to learn and gain skills to spur renewable energy and green economy sectors in Malaysia. Besides that, he hopes to share Malaysia unique cultural heritage and biodiversity with his 日博电竞 fellows.

Hsiao Ling Phuar is aregistered pharmacist from Klang, Malaysia. She obtained her Bachelor in Pharmacy degree from Universiti Sains Malaysia in 2006 and her MSc in Health Policy, Planning and Financing from the London School of Economics & Political Science and London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine in 2012. Currently, she is working in the Pharmaceutical Services Division in the Ministry of Health Malaysia. She serves as the overall coordinator in facilitating the planning and streamlining of the delivery of pharmacy services based on the 1Care blueprint. She hopes to spearhead Malaysia’s health care reform initiative with the help of all the foreign experience she can get so that she can successfully translate knowledge and policies into practice. Her quest in the field of health policy and management is driven by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who said that “Of all the forms of ine quality, injustice in health is the most shocking and the most inhumane” at the Second Annual Convention of the Medical Committee for Human Rights in Chicago on 25 March 1966. On top of that, she is also excited to be part of the 日博电竞 program and is looking forward to connecting with fellow 日博电竞 scholars in promoting international educational exchange.

Low Chee Pheng is a wildlife researcher from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She graduated from National University of Singapore in 2007. In 2008, she join

ed the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) – Malaysia Program, a Non-Governmental Organization based in New York, USA, as a researcher to conduct tiger conservation projects in the Endau-Rompin Landscape in Johor, Malaysia. Together with a team of researchers and local Indigenous people, Chee Pheng conducted a few research projects to monitor the populations of tigers and their prey, mapped the land cover changes of the Endau-Rompin Landscape and investigated the effect of land use and infrastructure to wildlife population. She also works closely with the local government agencies to conduct conservation intervention projects to protect wildlife and their habitats. Understanding factors that affect the survival of animals and proper land use planning is critical in the effort to conserve the wildlife and secure the basic needs for human, such as water. Therefore, during her time at SUNY-ESF, Chee Pheng hopes to improve her skills and knowledge in these aspects in order to be able to direct the course of the conservation interventions and projects. She also hopes to share her experience in wildlife conservation in Malaysia with her colleagues at SUNY-ESF.

Shanmuga is a practising lawyer and a partner in Kanesalingam & Co, Kuala Lumpur. He is also one of the founders of the legal blawg www.LoyarBurok.com, and a volunteer with the Malaysian Centre for Constitutionalism and Human Rights, also known as the Pusat Rakyat LoyarBurok. He obtained his LLB degree from King’s College, London in 1997, and was calle d to the Bar at Lincoln’s Inn in 1998. He also has a post graduate Diploma in Syariah Law & Practice from the International Islamic University, Malaysia. Aside from commercial and corporate litigation and advisory work, Shanmuga also does a lot of constitutional and public interest litigation. He has acted for many persons complaining of infringements of religious freedom (such as mothers whose children are converted to Islam by their estranged husbands without their consent) and infringements of freedom of speech (such as news portals or bloggers threated with sedition, or facing libel proceedings). Shanmuga will be pursuing an LLM at Columbia University, New York concentrating on religious freedom, media freedom and corporate insolvency.

Catherine S F Ho PhD, is a Professor of Finance at the Arshad Ayub Graduate Business School and Faculty of Business Management, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia. She obtained her PhD from Monash University, Australia; MBA from the University of Memphis, U.S.A.; and Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) from Carleton University, Canada. She has more than 25 years’ experience in academia and she has taught many courses and has published many papers in national and international finance and economics journals. Her area of specialization and research interests include international finance, exchange rate, trade and foreign investment, banking and corporate structure. She is also the Vice President of the Malaysian Finance Association (MFA) and a member of the Asian Finance Association. She held the position of Head of the Centre for Finance, Insurance, Economics and Islamic Banking Studies for five years (2008 – 2013). She supervises post-graduate master and doctorate candidates, and is often invited as external examiner for research theses. Her expertise and experience in the finance area enabled her to work wih the Securities Commission, Bank Negara Malaysia, Malaysian Financial Planning Council, Financial Accreditation Agency, Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad, Ministry of Finance and Putrajaya Holdings. During her time at Thunderbird, she hopes to enhance her knowledge and skill in international investment research, exchange ideas and information on multinational investments between developed and developing countries in order to provide a comprehensive view of foreign direct investment to enhance cross border investments. She is also excited to share Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage with her friends at the host institution and beyond, to increase mutual understanding.

Dr Jean-Li Lim is a primary care physician from Seremban, Malaysia. She obtained her MD from Putra University, Malaysia in 2003 and later her Master’s in Family Medicine from the National University of Malaysia in 2012. At the end of 2011, she was also inducted as a fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP). Dr Jean-Li has extensive experience working with indigenous communities in Malaysia including the Orang Asli of West Malaysia and the Iban and Penan of Sarawak. She also volunteers with various NGOs to provide healthcare services to the urban poor and displaced communities both locally and abroad. Currently, she is based in a Ministry of Health community clinic in Jempol, Negeri Sembilan. During her time in VCU, Dr Jean-Li hopes to enhance her knowledge and skill needed to assess unmet health needs and therefore design an effective program to improve sexual reproductive health practices among indigenous and marginalized women in Malaysia. Dr. Zulkifli Hasan is a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Shari’ah and Law, Islamic Science University of Malaysia. He obtained his first degree in Law (LLB) in 2001 and his second degree in Shariah in 2002 from the International Islamic University Malaysia. In 2004, he completed his Master of Comparative Laws from the same university. He received his Ph.D from the University of Durham, United Kingdom in 2011. As an academic, he has published numerous articles and books and presented many papers in various conferences both locally and abroad. Dr. Zulkifli has been the recipien
t of several academic awards including MAPIM Best Publication Award in the Category of Social Science 2013 and Best Educational Blog Award 2012 in the category of Public and Private Institution of Higher Learning in Malaysia. He also has vast experiences in Islamic finance industry as an advocate and solicitor, in-house legal advisor, Shari’ah Committee Member, committee member of the Association of Shari’ah Advisors including researcher for the Hawkamah, the Institute for Corporate Governance, Dubai International Financial Centre. Despite his many academic commitments, Dr. Zulkifli is also active in community works, sitting as the Deputy Chairman, International Affairs Bureau of Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia. In line with his research interest, during his time at Fordham University through the 日博电竞 U.S.-ASEAN Visiting Scholars Initiative, Dr. Zulkifli hopes to enhance his knowledge, experience and skill needed to analytically explore the extent of the regulatory framework of Islamic finance in different legal environments. As a Malaysian Muslim, he also wishes to share Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage and values as well as to promote the idea of wasatiyah (justly balanced moderation) as part of important Islamic teachings to realize peace and harmony.

Sing Muk Ng, PhD

Dr. Sing Muk Ng is currently a senior lecturer under the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Science at Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak (SUTS). He is also holding the position as the associate director of the Swinburne Sarawak Research Centre for Sustainable Technologies at the same university. He received his Bachelor of Science (BSc) in chemistry from the National University of Malaysia (UKM) in 2004, and his Doctoral degree (PhD) in analytical chemistry from The University of Manchester (UoM) in 2008. Sing Muk worked as a research assistant at the MoU on quartz microbalance sensors after his doctoral degree, and continued his post-doctoral training at Kyungpook National University, South Korea for almost a year. During the training, he worked on smart biomaterials as the platform for biosensors. Upon joining SUTS, he started his research interests in fluorescent nanoparticles and its utilization as chemical/biosensors. He has extensive experiences working in the area of optical sensors and also working at different cultural environments. During the attachment at Winston Salem State University, he hopes to strengthen STEM education and research by globalizing the chemistry curriculum, and by initiating international research and education collaborations. He would also give campus lectures and share his experiences with the university family and local community.

Wai Ling originates from the wettest town of Peninsular Malaysia known as Taiping, Perak. She’s a communications graduate from Universiti Sains Malaysia with a major in Public Relations and minor in Sociology. She has worked in publishing and advertising before realizing that teaching is what she loves and does best. She’s a lecturer in KDU University College where she teaches General English and English for Academic Purposes to both international and Malaysian students. She loves teaching a multicultural classroom and has great interest in education technology and positive psychology. As a grantee for the 日博电竞 Foreign Language Teaching Assistant program, she will be teaching the Malay language in her host institution, Ohio University. He is currently a third year senior in UCSI University. He is the recipient of the UCSI Trust Scholarhip. Previously, he was the President of Finance Council and the Captain of sports team in high school. He was also the Vice President of Chapel Committee, Treasurer of President Council and Treasurer of Special Needs Education Club. He took a gap year in to teach in MBSSKL and worked in hospitality industry. In university, he was actively involved in events such as the yearly held U-Schos Leadership Masterclass. He was actively involved in volunteering works such as Start Society’s Anti-Bully campaign and led Project ABC. Project ABC is a social project which offers free tuition classes impoverish children in Sri Johor, Kuala Lumpur.

Raymond Ng Lik Zhuan is from Teluk Intan, Perak. He is currently a third year Mechatronics Engineering degree student in Malaysia Science University. Previously, he completed his pre-undergraduate studies Malacca Matriculation College where he was elected as a Student Representative. In the university, he held posts and was involved with numerous activities as a committee. Among them are as the Deputy Director for University’s Charity Carnival project, President of Chinese Tionghua Society as well as Program Director for School of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Ballroom Dinner. He experienced collaborating with NGO partners through AIESEC environmental projects such as SolsTech 24/7 and C3. Moreover, he is currently studying Japanese language independently as his secondary language in university and have just recently sat for a Japanese Language Proficiency Test, a globally recognized test for Japanese language proficiency. Lastly, he loves interacting with people, especially with foreigners. Occasionally, he enjoys backpacking with friends be it domestically or to foreign countries. He aims to promote cross cultural understanding between diverse ethnics and nations by means of sharing his exchange and travel experiences.

Haziq Abdul Aziz is a law student from University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. He comes from Kuching, Sarawak. He is the founder and the current President of People’s Justice Party Student Wing. Previously, he was the Secretary General of Student Solidarity of Malaysia (Solidariti Mahasiswa Malaysia) and the President of Independent Student Activist Group (Kumpulan Aktivis Mahasiswa Independen). His main focus in student activism is the issue of academic freedom. He has conducted many campaigns and rallies to promote a greater understanding on academic freedom to students in Malaysian campus. Currently, he’s working with “Abolish AUKU and Act 174 Movement” (Gerakan Mansuhkan AUKU dan Akta 174) and holding position as the Head of Legal Bureau. He admires the US civilized democracy system and he hopes that Malaysia will be following the same steps towards a greater democracy. He plans to share with his fellow UGRAD friends of the unique multiethnic culture of Malaysia.

Elsie Sharon Giluk has been teaching Science and Mathematics at secondary schools in Sabah, North Borneo since 1992. She has taught in both rural and urban schools.  Elsie is an active member of the school’s innovation unit; she has assisted her students in innovation projects that have won medals in state, national and international levels. She is also an active member of her parish education committee, where she has played a role in promoting consistent and effective parental involvement in children faith formation.  She will be based at school of education at a U. S. university from Jan 2014 till May 2014. She will have the opportunity to take university classes and seminars, share and discuss teaching best practises with colleagues of different teaching background.

Salbi Abu Bakar has been teaching English since 1999 and currently teaching at Tunku Abdul Rahman Secondary School, Kuching Sarawak Malaysia. Her students range from 13 to 15 years old. She is the head of school Cultural Club as well as a School Ambassador for The British Council Connecting Classrooms program.  She is also the School-Based Assessment Coordinator of Tunku Abdul Rahman Secondary School. Her aims of joining this program are to gain different perspective about leadership and skills on mentoring and couching in teaching particularly in teaching English. In addition, she hopes that by participating in the ILEP program, she will have a rewarding academic experience and exposure to the rich American culture. She also looks forward to collaborating with some schools in Unite State of America after completing the program.
