Job Title:  EducationUSA Adviser

Location: Kuala Lumpur

EducationUSA is a U.S. Department of State network of over 430 international student advising centers in 178 countries and territories. The network promotes U.S. higher education to students around the world by offering accurate, comprehensive, and current information about opportunities to study at accredited post secondary institutions in the United States. EducationUSA also provides services to the U.S. higher education community to help institutional leaders meet their recruitment and campus internationalization goals. EducationUSA is the official source on U.S. higher education.

Adviser Qualifications:

  • Education:   Direct experience with the U.S. system of higher education is preferred. Preferably a graduate from a U.S. university with a degree in Counseling, Education, Communication, International Affairs, Social Sciences, Humanities, or any related fields. Knowledge of the United States’s and Malaysia’s educational systems is required. Excellent communication skills and proficiency in English and Bahasa Malaysia are required; proficiency in Mandarin is an advantage. Previous experience in advising international students is helpful.
  • Competent computer skills: Experience in word-processing, e-mail, PowerPoint, use of Microsoft Word, Excel spreadsheets and databases are preferred. Ability to manage various social media platforms: MACEE website, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, various blogs; familiarity with on-line conferencing tools such as Skype, Zoom, Google Meet and/or others.
  • Job Competencies : Work closely with the Country Coordinator in planning, budgeting, executing, the core skills that are required. Must be able to multi-task and meet deadlines and expectations set by MACEE, the U.S. Embassy, Host Institution, and/or Regional Educational Advising Coordinator (REAC) and customers.
  • Other skills and attributes: Demonstrate strong counseling, presentation, proposal and report writing, and customer service orientation skills required. 

Responsibilities:

The EducationUSA Adviser, in coordination with the U.S.Embassy/Consulate, Host Institution, and/or Regional Educational Advising Coordinator ( REAC), carries out the following educational advising functions. The employee works in collaboration with and under the general supervision of EducationUSA host/post supervisor. The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. Provide educational advising services to students, parents and professionals seeking to study in the United States. Information is provided in person and via e-mail, website, web conferencing, social media, and telephone in both English and local language(s).
  2. Participate in the planning and implementation of special advising programs such as pre-departure orientations, one-on-one student advising, cohort advising, outreach programs, in-country training for new advisers, country workshops, and approved university fairs.
  3. Foster opportunities for interaction between departing and returning students and scholars; work closely with the Embassy to engage returning grantees and alumni as resources for advising purposes and programming.
  4. Provide information on education for U.S. university representatives or other non-host country inquiries.
  5. Produce educational advising materials, such as handouts and site lists for specific fields of study.
  6. Maintain contacts with individuals and organizations engaged in educational advising in and outside the United States.
  7. Provide research services for office and country coordination inquiries on international student mobility.
  8. Act as an adviser liaison between the U.S. Embassy/ Consulate/日博电竞 Commission/ Host Institution/REAC and other agencies on behalf of EducationUSA.
  9. Assist the Country Coordinator with business plans, annual strategic plans, budgeting, marketing, funding requests, and strategic planning for income-generating activities as needed.
  10. Reporting: Maintain and report monthly statistics on center engagements (DRS platform), submit highlights/weekly activity reports (WAR platform), submit/update events on the EducationUSA website calendar, provide student mobility trends and/or adviser insight for inclusion in the annual EducationUSA Global Guide publication, assist with Open Doors annual data as it relates to student mobility trends in-country, and provide insight/expertise on other EducationUSA related projects as directed by the U.S. Embassy supervisor, host institution supervisor, and/or REAC.
  11. Maintain a database of advisees for center tracking purposes and/or center marketing of outreach, events, and/or activities.
  12. Manage the annual EducationUSA fairs, third-party fairs, and other related events’ preparation and execution with Country Coordinator and other adviser(s).
  13. Work with other adviser(s) on maintaining MACEE’s website and update events on EducationUSA’s website
  14. Work with other adviser(s) on EducationUSA’s newsletter
